I executed debug40.zip and ran hddbg40.exe

I enabled logging.

I ran Activesync with the Pocket PC.

Crashed in the middle of the sync.

I searched the PC for hdbdbg.log and could not find it.
Thank you.

Hi there,

Thanks for the followup. As you know the HanDBase for Smartphone product has not been updated for some time due to the fact that the devices are no longer manufactured. Since writing that debug tool, WIndows has been updated 2 (going on 3) times and they have since blocked writing to the c:\ folder, where the hdbdbg.log file is written. That said, you should be able to locate the file here:

You don’t actually have privilege to write to the root folder of the C: drive, so if a program tries to do it you will probably find that the file has been written to
%SystemDrive%\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\VirtualStore
or a subfolder. Click the start button and paste that location, including percent signs, into the search window. An Explorer window will open on that location.

I know you should be able to find the file via search, but check there nonetheless.

Dear Mr. Haupert:

Thank you for replying and trying to help.

I don't have a smart phone. HP iPaq Rx-3715 is Pocket PC.

I tried a search of the entire C: drive for hdbdbg.log.
Not found.

I refined your URL by adding [\]'s to:
%SystemDrive%\Users\%username%\\AppData\Local\VirtualStore

Nothing found.

The HanDBase Desktop's DB Browser now pulls up a total of 151 databases from two folders:

C:\Users\Charles\Documents\HanDBase\WindowsMobile\PocketPC

This folder has 29 databases.

And

C:\Users\Charles\Documents\HanDBase\WindowsMobile\PocketPC\StorageCard_20120810_174553_PocketPC

This subfolder has 152 databases.

What is my next step?

Thank you.
Thank you.

Hi Charles,

My pleasure in helping- wish I could respond with a quick solution but it appears to be more involved than that.

You posted your original question in the group for Window Mobile Standard, which is the name for Windows smartphones, not pocket PCs which are in a different forum section. That's the reason I made the assumption and comments regarding windows mobile smartphones! Are you certain you are using the HanDBase for Windows Mobile Classic and not the Standard version? If so, that may explain some of the issue!

Since the debug tool issue applies to both, the problem is probably going to be solved using a different method:

Can you see the database that is syncing when the crash happens? A crash during the sync usually happens if a database file is corrupt on either the desktop or the device and since both are looked at at the time of the sync, it could be either side. Usually you can see the progress window show a database that is syncing when the crash happens. If you do, the next thing you could try is moving that database out of the desktop folder where it is stored. You can move it somewhere like the desktop where the conduit won't see it.

Then try syncing again- does the sync now complete? If so, then try a second sync and see if it does again- that means the Pocket PC version has successfully replicated in both locations and you should be OK to proceed.

If it still crashes in the same spot, I'd suggest using the File Explorer on the device to move the same file to a different location. Now if it completes the next sync we know the corrupt database is the one on the device. You can then try opening the one on the desktop you moved using HanDBase Desktop. Does it open successfully? If so, it's probably not corrupt and you can choose File, Instal to Smartphone/handheld and choose your Pocket PC to install this one back to the device on the next sync.

If it won't open either you have a doubly corrupted file and will have to look through the backup folder for a copy that the desktop will open without an error. If you find one, you can then install it using the above mentioned methods.

Let me know how you proceed!

Dear Mr. Haupert:

Thank you for the details.

Before implementing, I want to know whether any of these files on the handheld PPC matter:
on iPaq File Store in Handbase_id.txt [20110801_160213_WINDOWSMOBILE41]
on SD Card in in Handbase_id.tx [20120904_224057_PocketPC]

All Databases on HandHeld are only at
Computer\PocketPCLap\\\My Documents\Handbase

Databases on Desktop are both at

C:\Users\Charles\Documents\HanDBase\WindowsMobile\PocketPC = 29 databases
C:\Users\Charles\Documents\HanDBase\WindowsMobile\PocketPC\StorageCard_20120810_174553_PocketPC = 124 Databases

Which ID from the HandHeld should I delete before syncing?
What should I do about the two sets of databases on the Desktop?

Which should I first do:

The sync on your insgtructions?
The "cleaning up" of the directories?

Thank you.

All
Thank you.

Dear Mr. Haupert:

Thank you for your help.

I found the corrupted file and copied over a error free version from backups.

Now, both the Handheld and the Desktop have a single list of databases.
Thank you.
