Problems with HanDBase for Android

Postby Reelman60 » Sun Oct 09, 2011 9:56 pm

I have a couple of problems that maybe someone can help me with. I'm using a new Archos 80 G9 tablet. I downloaded the Android version direct. It uses Honeycomb.
I've copied a number of databases (manually without a desktop or conduit?) which I've used in both the Palm version and Iphone versions of HanDBase to my tablet (using copy and paste). They ran fine in the aforementioned versions without any problems. In the Android version of Handbase, there seems to be great instability. I can open a database a few times and then get the following message "THE APPLICATION HANDBASE HAS STOPPED UNEXPECTEDLY. PLEASE TRY AGAIN". This message comes up repeatedly every time I try to open the database, like it was corrupted.

The other problem I noticed is, the ADVANCED SEARCH feature does not bring up a record when it should. The record is highlighted but you need to scroll down the screen to find it. This is major in a database program, to enter data, when it exists, and not have a record display. Is anyone else having these issues? Is there a fix?

Hello,

Thanks for writing. When you open the database, and encounter the force close message, is it for the same database each time? If so, do you happen to experience the issue with other databases as well?

Yes,it has occurred repeatedly with this particular database. I copy the database from my laptop to recover each time. I experienced the same issue with another database so I don't think it is this particular database but an issue with the platform itself.

Thanks for the update. Please try a quick rebuild of the database as I'm suspecting it has something to do with the file. Here's how:

What I suggest is the following workaround:

1. Open the database in question on the desktop.
2. Select the File -> Export menu option.
3. Choose to generate a CSV file from the database.
4. Use the File -> Save As menu option to note the location of the database.
5. Close the database.
6. Go to this location using Explorer and manually move the database to a different location.
7. In HanDBase Desktop, create a new database that has the same structure of the one you just exported as a CSV file.
8. Choose the File -> Import menu option to import the CSV, appending the records to this new database.

Hope this helps to rebuild the file.

After doing so, replace the original on the device with this copy and test to see if you continue to get Force Close messages. If you do, please send me a copy of the file at support @ ddhsoftware . com along with a list of the exact steps you are taking to see the issue.
