Thanks for following up, and sorry for overlooking the response.

You are correct that linked fields only work properly when created via the adding of a new record. For this reason, I encourage using the relationship field type instead of the link/linked field type.

You could then use the "copy records to" option to copy all of the records from one of the databases to the other.
